VR update (22/06/2026):
As part of our commitment to ongoing communications, we want to provide a further update on the progression of the VR scheme. As previously shared, we continue to manage the scheme on a phased basis to ensure applications are considered carefully, consistently and with due regard to service delivery, workforce planning and financial affordability.
Phase 1
Phase 1 is nearing completion, with a number of voluntary redundancy exits now agreed and implemented. We would like to thank colleagues involved for their engagement throughout the process.
Next phase
Discussions continue with system partners regarding funding arrangements for the next phase of VR. These discussions are taking place at executive level and positive progress has been made. Before proceeding to the next planned stage of the process, we are awaiting further confirmation from NHS Cheshire and Merseyside of the next steps.
We appreciate that colleagues will be keen to understand the outcome of these discussions and we are committed to providing a further update as soon as possible.
Further applications
For colleagues who have submitted an application and have not yet been notified of an outcome, please be assured that your application remains under active consideration.
Senior Responsible Officers, with support from the Executive Team, across the Group continue to review applications with a view to identifying which requests can be supported. Decisions are being made based on a range of factors including service requirements, working planning considerations and financial affordability. These assessments are focused on the impact of releasing a post to ensure applications are considered fairly and equally.
Where applications are approved, colleagues will be contacted directly and next steps will be clearly outlined. We anticipate communicating outcomes from this current review process within the next two weeks.
We recognise that this period can create uncertainty and this can be challenging. We would again like to thank colleagues for their continued patience and understanding as we work through this complex process in a careful and structured manner
